Suzy Jeffreys joined North by Northeast in September 2007, having just returned to Portland after a three-year absence in which she completed an MA in Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, BC. Suzy oversees North by Northeast’s other staff members as well as 75 volunteers and participates in all aspects of North by Northeast’s clinical and non-profit management, from grant-writing and donor development to community outreach and policy creation. She was responsible for the coordination of North by Northeast’s move in August 2009 to the Garlington Center, into a newly constructed space four times the size of our first home. More recently, she has managed the development of the Garlington Garden from an empty lot into a highly productive and welcoming space utilized by the staff and clients of the three agencies occupying the Garlington Center. An organizer and list-maker by nature, Suzy loves using her administrative and planning skills to help further the mission of North by Northeast. Suzy recently completed the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Ladder to Leadership Program, an 18-month-long initiative aimed at enhancing the leadership capacity of community-based non-profit health and health-related organizations serving vulnerable populations. Suzy became North by Northeast’s first Executive Director in November 2011.
Sharetta began with North by Northeast in February of 2010 as Office and Volunteer Coordinator, responsible for volunteer management, reception duties, patient inquiries and office management. In October 2011, she was promoted to Clinic & Volunteer Coordinator, taking on patient care duties and running several evening clinics each month. A native Oregonian, Sharetta has lived in Portland most of her life. She brings a wealth of experience in social service as a volunteer coordinator for the American Red Cross and the State of Oregon, and as a program manager for the Salvation Army. Sharetta has a deep commitment to the health of our community and is excited to be part of our work.
Holly jointed us as our full-time Patient Care Manager in mid-November, 2011. Holly completed her nursing degree at OHSU and most recently worked at Planned Parenthood and the Legacy Emanuel Family Birth Center. A common thread through all of Holly’s nursing experience, paid and volunteer, has been working with diverse and underserved populations, and she feels strongly that health care and health education are basic rights for every person. She’ll be increasing our capacity for patient care by seeing patients individually and during group visits during daytime hours. Holly is a fourth generation North Portlander and so has a great understanding and love for our community.
Although Caitlyn began as a volunteer with us in June 2011, we were pleased to welcome her as our new Office Assistant in October 2011. Caitlyn studied Human Physiology at the University of Oregon and then spent a year as an AmeriCorps member educating Portland-area high school students about their health and healthcare options. Caitlyn will be attending medical school in the fall of 2012 and hopes to someday open a clinic similar to North by Northeast in another under-served area. She has lived in Northeast Portland her entire life, so the members of the communities we serve hold a special place in her heart. |
