Taking Barbershop Health National…and Virtual
In October we held our first of three virtual convenings with folks doing barbershop health work all over the country. We were joined by 27 barbers, barbershop owners and program coordinators from Baltimore, Philadelphia, Denver, Oakland, Jackson, Nashville, Los Angeles and the Bay Area. While we were disappointed not to be able to welcome all these incredible barbers to Portland in person as planned, it was thrilling to hear about the unique ways each program is engaging barbers in community health around the country. Thanks to Kaiser Permanente and other generous funders, each participating barber will receive a $1,000 stipend for attending the convenings. We’re grateful to our funders and all the participants, and we’re especially grateful to our co-convener, Dr. Kenji Taylor from Stanford University and The Cut Hypertension Program.
