We are Family!

On June 2, we joined with over 400 community members, donors, patients, friends and family to celebrate, sing, laugh, share a meal - and raise money for NxNE at our 2018 Community Supper. What a joyful celebration it was!

And what a fundraising success too, thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors and hundreds of individuals. We raised over $183,000, surpassing our goal by $36,000! Every gift – from a $5 raffle ticket to a $5,000 donation – will go toward our mission of making sure “Black Health Matters” isn’t just something we say but something that becomes the truth for our community.

It will come as no surprise if you know us at NxNE that music and song were an important part of this year’s Community Supper. The evening opened with our first-ever NxNE music video set to “Lean on Me,” created and directed by Dawn Jones-Redstone of Hearts + Sparks Productions. From Tracey Harris’s stirring performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” to our staff rendition of “We Are Family” to closing out the night with dancing to the soul and funk sounds of Andrew Clay and Just Friends, music infused our evening with joy.

Stories spoke to who we are as an organization. Patient Andrew Clay shared his story of health at NxNE, Dr. Jill took us back to the origin story of the clinic, and our Executive Director Suzy Jeffreys and Board Chair Charlene McGee reminded all of our guests that we are here because we believe Black Health Matters.

If you couldn’t join us, you can get a feel for the night by watching the videos below or scrolling through the photo album from the evening here (use code “tcpnxne” to download watermark-free versions of your favorites).

We have lots of work ahead of us, and we are stronger as a result of your commitment to North by Northeast. These lyrics from “Lift Every Voice and Sing” capture well where we are headed together:
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, let us march on till victory is won.

Mark your calendar now for May 18, 2019
for our third Community Supper!
