A Welcome and a Farewell
In July we said goodbye to our longtime Medical Assistant, Tiara Williams. Tiara joined NxNE in 2016 as a part-time MA, part-time student at Portland State University, Army Medic in the National Guard and mom to an energetic two-year-old! She leaves NxNE with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science/Spanish and as the mom of a kindergartener, headed to the Middle East on deployment. Our staff and patients will miss her big laugh, her persistence and thoroughness, and her honesty, but we’ll see…

Cuts and Checks Scholars
For the past four years we’ve been partnering with neighborhood barbershops through Cuts and Checks™, our barbershop hypertension program. Our staff and trained patient ambassadors have checked thousands of blood pressures and referred hundreds of barbershop clients back to their health care providers for follow-up or to North by Northeast for insurance enrollment assistance and primary care. Safe Homes Healthy Homes Kickoff a Success!
We had a wonderful time welcoming community members and patients to our first Safe Homes Healthy Homes event in partnership with Metro! Guests could dispose of used needles/sharps and old medication safely, easily and for free thanks to Metro. Everyone was treated to great music and food, a food prep demonstration from NxNE board member Florence Jenkins, a green cleaning station, raffles for awesome prizes like Zoo passes and green cleaning kits, and information about employment with Metro.…
