Welcome to Tiara, our new(ish) Medical Assistant!

Tiara Simpson joined the North by Northeast family as our Medical Assistant in July 2016. Since 2010 Tiara has served as an Army Medic in the National Guard, where she performs blood draws and immunizations for Oregon’s National Guard soldiers as part of their physical health assessments. In her role at North by Northeast she is a “bridge” between our clinical staff and our patients – she contacts patients with test results, makes sure they get the preventive care that is needed,…

Pete’s Story

Pete’s Story

A longtime NxNE patient and retired London firefighter, Pete came for a visit and described some worrisome symptoms to Dr. Michele Babaie – fainting one night before bed, lightheadedness and stomach upset. Pete (pictured at right with Dr. Babaie) isn’t one to complain and might have avoided seeking care altogether or glossed over these symptoms during a visit. 10 Years!

10 Years!

Ten years ago - on August 17, 2006 - we cut the ribbon and opened the doors to our first patients on N Williams Ave. Our community has poured its support, love and resources into our efforts for the past ten years! From a staff of all volunteers to a paid staff of nine, from the very first couple of patients to thousands of neighbors who have come through our doors, from a 400 square foot former bakery to the new 3,200 square foot home we'll be moving to in just a few months...we have come so…

Looking Back, Looking Ahead: From our Medical Director

In March of 2006 Pastor Mary and I were still getting to know each other and firming up our vision for a free clinic to serve people who had common health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure but nowhere to go for regular medical care. Still to come: applying for non-profit status, raising our first dollar, hiring our first employee, converting the church annex from a bakery into a space where we could see patients, securing volunteers, obtaining medical supplies and equipment,…
